Pop Up Diary

July 19th, 2008
Today is my 27th Birthday, and I just began working on my Pop Up Shop at Space 15 Twenty in Hollywood. I will sell my collection along with, art, music, films, books, vintage, curiosities, and design products from friends and contemporaries hand curated by myself. It looks like I will be spending the rest of my summer putting together a stocklist, and working on the design of the space with Patrick. Hollywood here I come!

October 2, 2008 So I figured the best place to start my buying was Paris, not only to begin selecting the vintage clothing (see the bedazzled bustier above!) and curiosities for my store, but also to gather inspiration, and what better time to go than fashion week.

I fly to LA to check out the space. I brought Patrick, who has been drafting up the plans for the space, and we met everyone that would be helping us with putting together the store. They gave us a tour of the space, which was still under construction, so we got to wear hard hats.

While in LA, we went to the famous Rose Bowl Flea market, for vintage clothes, antiques and furniture We found many beautiful things especially this couch which came from a psychology professors office at the University of Ohio, and a 100 year old cigar case, that we would use for jewelry.

We found plaster replicas of classical busts and sculptures on the side of the road, while driving down Santa Monica Blvd. We tried my hat on one bust, and it was a perfict fit!

7 talented people come join me in LA to build the store. I will be in Los Angeles for 3 weeks. Better dust off my drivers license!

All the fixtures are custom made; light box tables, mirrored mausoleums, felt tapestries, and the floor pattern made out of tape!

Now for the finishing touches, we dress the windows and do all of the merchandising.

We are finished at last and all the hard work has paid off. I now have a beautiful store that brings my dreams to reality.

November 21, 2008
today is the Grand opening party! We have Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti, and macarons and iced tea by Lamill of Silverlake.

I hope everyone will come by and find great treasures, but they
better be quick, this pop up will only be around for a couple months!

  1. That bustier in the first shot is incredible.

PS HI! love your designs. how inspiring to be able to look towards someone so young (i just turned 20 and feel the creeping pressure to do something earth-shattering somehow) and so accomplished already. it's reassuring.

happy new year and all the best!
